Definition

Beta Beta Beta, also known as TriBeta stands for the following:

BALANOS - meaning acorn, representing life in and on the ground

BOUDETASE - means little bird, representing life in the air

BOAX - means fish, representing life in the water

All three words may be summed up in the one word, BIOS- meaning life.

Purpose

The purpose of the Beta Beta Beta Biological National Honor Society shall be to function as an honor and professional society for students of the biological sciences. Its goals shall be to stimulate interest, investigate in the biological sciences, and to promote the dissemination of information and new interpretations among students of the life sciences.

Eligibility

Any SU student is eligible to become an associate member of TriBeta. Associate members may become full members if they meet the requirements of full membership. Full membership invitations are sent to eligible students each spring semester, usually early April. The initiation ceremony for new members occurs at the Biology honors night in early May.

The following criteria must be met to qualify as a full member of TriBeta:

  • Complete BIOL 210
  • Complete 36 credit hours at SU
  • Complete 9 hours of biology at the 211 level or above
  • Attain a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or greater

Official invitations to join are mailed out in April to all eligible students, but you are encouraged to join at any time. Look for meeting times on the TriBeta bulletin board on the second floor of Henson Hall.

Membership costs are $50, which includes costs for registration with national society office, honor cords, BBB keychain, and certificates. Cash or checks payable to TriBeta.
