Honor Society Pi Mu Epsilon (PME)

The goal of the Annual Eastern Shore High School Mathematics Competition is to promote and support mathematics in the secondary education community of the Lower- and Mid-Eastern Shore counties of Delmarva.

is an honor society dedicated to the promotion, understanding, and enjoyment of mathematics. Founded in 1913 by Professor Edward Drake Roe, Jr., PME today has over 400 chapters across the US. Students in PME are united by their love for mathematics and their strong performance in their math classes. Becoming a PME member entitles you to

  1. attend their conference at MathFest in the summer, where you may give a talk on mathematical research,
  2. wear a special PME cord on your cap and gown to commemorate your membership,
  3. access the PME journal, which contains research articles and math problems,
  4. include on your resume that you are a member of a nationally recognized honor society.

The requirements for becoming an undergraduate member of PME are as follows:

  1. complete at least the equivalent of two semesters of calculus,
  2. complete two additional courses in mathematics, at or above the calculus level, all of which lead to the fulfillment of the requirements for a major in the mathematical sciences,
  3. maintain a GPA equivalent to that of at least 3.0 on a 4-point scale for all courses that lead to fulfillment of requirements for a major in the mathematical sciences,
  4. maintain a GPA equivalent to that of at least a 3.0 on a 4-point scale for all courses that lead to fulfillment of requirements for an undergraduate degree.
