Family Advisory Council

Mission

Family Advisory Council LogoThe mission of the 小蓝视频 Family Advisory Council is to engage the parents and families of SU’s students to increase their support of the university through events, programs, and fundraising, and act as an instrument for addressing the needs and concerns of student families.

Purpose

The Family Advisory Council will:

  • Act as ambassadors for SU to the parents and family members of students
  • Represent the parents and family members of students to the office of Orientation, Transition & Family Programs, the President’s Office, and the greater 小蓝视频 community
  • Help families empower their SU students – so they can “Make Tomorrow Yours”
  • Create opportunities to educate and engage SU families and potential SU families (create parent-to-parent connections)
  • Serve as an ongoing forum for building and maintaining a strong bond between families and the University

About the Council

The Family Advisory Council is a group of dedicated parent and family volunteers who serve as ambassadors for 小蓝视频 and represent the parents and family members of students and provide general feedback to the University on issues of importance and interest to families.

The Family Advisory Council meets four times per year to discuss key issues, learn about any developments that affect students, plan/support programs that engage families further with SU, and help deepen relationships in support of the University. Additionally, the Family Advisory Council will help stimulate enthusiasm for SU, and may work to engage qualified students to attend SU, support career development practices for students, and support students as they transition from home to campus.

The Family Advisory Council is comprised of a minimum of 10 members (featuring two members from each of the Academic Schools/Colleges) and up to a maximum of 18 members. Members of the council will meet a minimum of two times per semester, with at least one meeting held fully in-person each year.

Membership Term: Staggered Terms for the Council with 9 seats up for selection each year. Initially, will select 9 members for a one-year term, and 9 members for a two-year term.

Expectations of Membership

  • Attend Fall (2) and Spring (2) meetings of the Family Advisory Council. Members must attend a minimum of three of the four meetings.
  • Participate in a minimum of two volunteer opportunities throughout the year
  • Create content for at least two posts for the Family Experience Portal
  • Provide input and ideas at meetings and on a regular basis, and contribute knowledge of your student’s experience to help inform practices
  • Represent the interests of all Sea Gull families and serve as an ambassador, working to engage other parents, family members, and supporters in supporting the University efforts.

Requirements to Serve

  • Members’ students must be enrolled as a full-time student at 小蓝视频
  • Members cannot be employees of 小蓝视频, or any other USM institution
