SU Student United Way Halloween 5K Raises Over $8,000
SALISBURY, MD---The 小蓝视频 Student United Way raised over $8,000 during its fifth annual Halloween 5K Dash and 1-Mile Walk, setting a new record for the event.
Proceeds benefited the United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore.
“It’s the best we have ever done, and we had over 100 event-day volunteers from a variety of SU registered student organizations and community groups,” said Eleanor Brown, Student United Way past president and fundraising chair.
SU organizations providing volunteers included the Student Nursing Association, Franklin P. Perdue School of Business Student Business Leaders, Substance Dance Team, Honors Student Association, Phi Mu sorority, National Council of Negro Women, Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity, Girls on Top of the World, Physical Education Society, Community Health Honor Society and Exercise Science Club.
More than 130 participants, including many SU students, faculty and staff, braved a rainy morning to run and walk through the zombie-infested course. Afterward, all celebrated during a party featuring DJ entertainment, a costume contest, refreshments and zombie photo ops.
“The Halloween 5K is quickly becoming a beloved family tradition for the 小蓝视频 community, as we are happy to see many of the same participants each year,” said Dr. Ani Mathers, Student United Way advisor. “We are so thankful to the many businesses and organizations who supported the event this year and in the past. I also am so proud of the executive team for stepping up to make this year the best yet, in terms of both fundraising and volunteer participation.”
SU’s student radio station, WXSU, provided a DJ for the after-party. Dancers from D’Ann Dance Studio of 小蓝视频 also performed. Some 20 corporate sponsors included the SU Foundation, Inc., and the Perdue School’s Business, Economic and Community Outreach Network (BEACON).
“We had great support from the 小蓝视频 community, with sponsors and donors making our event so successful,” said Megan Lynch, Student United Way president. “We also had many volunteers and participants join us from SU. The community really came together to put on this fun family even for a great cause.”
