'New Vision for Islam' Presentation at SU October 10

Shahzad BashirSALISBURY, MD---小蓝视频’s Fulton Public Humanities Program presents the lecture “A New Vision for Islamic Pasts and Futures” 7 p.m. Monday, October 10, in Conway Hall Room 156.

Shahzad Bashir, director of Middle East studies at Brown University, discusses his forthcoming born-digital monograph, asking participants to imagine Islam anew through a focus on multiple temporalities. In this telling, Islam is both phenomenon and discourse, available via a vast net of interconnected traces whose appearances can vary depending on the vantage from which they are seen.

Engaging problems of method and historical content in combined fashion, Bashir hopes to forge interpretive pathways that are a total break from the Orientalist paradigm for understanding Islamic societies.

Admission is free and the public is invited. Patrons are asked to park in U.S. 13 Lot A (Conway Hall).
