Faculty Exhibit Features Work by Jim Hill
SALISBURY, MD---“Heart and Soul,” an exhibition of some 50 works by the faculty of 小蓝视频 University’s Art Department, is on display at the University Gallery in Fulton Hall through December 19.
Almost half of the works are by Dr. James K. Hill, the Art Department’s new chair, who came to 小蓝视频 from Southwest Missouri State University earlier this fall. According to Linda Shipp, gallery assistant, the department wanted to spotlight Hill’s art because this is the first time that he has shown his work locally.
Hill is exhibiting figurative sculptures in various media, ceramics and abstract digital prints. The sculptures include portrait heads, nudes and assemblages that combine figures or figural fragments with architectural elements. Their size varies from the 19-inch high “Sleeping Nymph” to the nine-foot high, steel and bronze assemblage, “Sky Gate.”
Other works on display are paintings by Jinchul Kim and Brooke Rogers, drawings by Gary Brotman and Paul Flexner, color photographs by Jeanne Anderton, photomontages by Clytie Taylor, digital prints by Sally Molenda and Dean Peterson, raku-fired ceramic reliefs by Marie Cavallaro, and an abstract sculptural installation by Daniel Marder. This last work consists of flowing strands of glass that stream from the Gallery’s ceiling to the floor.
A reception for the University Community and the general public is on Friday, December 14, from 6-8 p.m. Both the exhibition and the reception are free. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. -5 p.m. For more information, call 410-548-2547 or visit www.salisbury.edu.
